Cold-press juices are as popular as ever with consumers in the 28 to 43-year-old age range.

“Millennials are over-indexed in terms of interest in the cold-press category,” according to Sophie Côté, an executive with Innova Market Insights. “It does mirror a larger market trend in terms of interest in the cold-press category (in that) it is perceived as healthier.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced its intent to purchase up to $25 million in fresh citrus from domestic producers to distribute to food banks and nutrition assistance programs across the country. These purchases are being made through Section 32 of the Agriculture Act of 1935 and will assist producers and communities in need.

At an agricultural technology event Citrus Growers' Association Justin Chadwick shared his frustration that, after the collective effort of many years by the private sector to convince the South African government of the merits of port privatization, its very first foray into outsourcing port management, is being delayed by members of the same private sector.

The approximately 48,000 acres of citrus groves, which are located in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands and Polk Counties, sustained hurricane or tropical storm force winds for varying durations of time. Field assessments are ongoing, but initial observations include measurable drop of fruit from trees in their northern groves, particularly in Polk and Hardee County.

Hailstorms have impacted around 1,500h of production in the Valencia region, with citrus and persimmon among the worst affected crops, according to agricultural union Ava-Asaja.
