Quite a few industry websites, preventively, offline today. The impact of the PHP-vulnerability, impacting about 70% of the websites in the world, is visible, all around.
It makes us realize that taking things for granted, even the core programming language of our websites, is something we cannot do. Our vulnerabilities, our dependency, is based on understanding. And if you do not realize that that website builder is using an unstable, insecure version of a core component, there may be danger where you do not see it.
I did a check on all sites of my readers and notified them in a separate mailing earlier today, based on what is technically feasible from my side. Nonetheless, for everyone, check with your IT provider, your website builder, whether today's new may affect your online presence, client portal, or sensitive data.
Sincerely,
Jan van Iperen · ectus
PS For those interested: The tool I use for this newsletter is linked to my (paid-for, not-training-the-model) Claude account, so that I can quickly run tests and see where improvement is required. I had it check all readers’ email domains for their tech-stack, and had it create a separate segment in my mailinglist for those running their sites with any tool using PHP. That segment received the earlier email.

Finger citron (Citrus medica ‘Fingered’) is recognized for its unique fragrance and serves as a source for essential oil extraction.
