🫡 Happy Memorial Day… and thanks to those who served.
Last week’s hiatus was good for Juice New’s future and thus for its audience:
As most people subscribe with their work email—and don’t change it when they switch jobs—there was quite the list of sleeper accounts. A tedious process to check and remove them one by one, double-check that they changed employer on LinkedIn, and realizr that we operate in a really small industry.
Then, even with solid gates to avoid this as much as possible, there are still spam sign-ups. The weird gmail and outlook addresses that are clearly auto-generated, with 100% delivery, but 0 opens or clicks. Easier to spot, still a process that needs a human eye (pre-selection is done by the newsletter platform though.)
It hurts to strip over 300 email addresses from my list. But just like the news itself, I curate this list for quality, not quantity. So this purge—which will not be the last—makes the list healthier, more valuable, and more accurate. Natural pruning.
As my newsletter platform has added an MCP (Model Context Protocol), I can use any AI to communicate with Juice News’ backend and get super detailed information. This helps in optimizing the newsletter, better understanding the audience and improving the offering for newsletter partners.
In a better setting, Juice News is going beyond the news in the coming weeks. The “Anatomy of a Juice” series took a bit longer to set up, but again: I prefer quality.
Fitting on this day, and as I learned from a dear ex-military friend: Slow is Smooth. and Smooth is Fast.
Updates beyond “juice” are also in the making, on the citrus and ingredients front, so be ready for those.
For tomorrow: back to the news!
Sincerely
