Challenges Facing Southern Hemisphere Citrus Imports

Symrise Successfully Places €800 Million Bond in European Market and McKenna Family Continues Florida Citrus Legacy.

For Professionals in the Juice and Citrus industry

Did you know?

Back in ancient Rome, citrus wasn’t the everyday snack we know today, it was pure luxury. The Romans first got their hands on citrons around the 3rd – 2nd centuries B.C., brought west from Southeast Asia through regions like Israel and Cyprus, but these knobby, mostly-rind fruits weren’t eaten for taste; instead, they were prized for their fragrance, beauty, and even mystical powers. Lemons trickled in centuries later, right around the time of Christ, and quickly joined citrons as status symbols on elite tables, flaunted more for prestige than for pulp. These rare fruits were used to scent clothes, freshen breath, and even ward off evil. It wasn’t until much later (sour oranges, limes, and pomelos arriving by the 10th century, sweet oranges in the 15th, mandarins after that) that citrus became less exotic and more familiar, transforming from coveted curiosities into the everyday fruits that brighten our industry today.
