After severe frost and extreme weather cut the MY 2025/26 harvest, favorable conditions drive a strong recovery in MY 2026/27. Commercial apple production is forecast at 4.3 MMT (+88%), pears at 620,000 MT (+46%), and table grapes at 2.2 MMT (+53%). Exports rebound sharply to 270,000 MT (apples), 58,000 MT (pears), and 220,000 MT (grapes) but stay below pre-frost averages due to lost market share, rising costs, and a less competitive exchange rate. The large crop has pushed many farm-gate prices below production costs.
Apple imports are forecast at 150,000 MT in MY 2026/27, up slightly from 146,681 MT as domestic fruit supplies normalize after a 2026 bumper crop. Domestic apple production is expected to reach 1,250 MT (from 1,066 MT) on favorable weather, the largest recent crop, on ~180 ha. Consumption is projected at 151,250 MT. The U.S. remains the top supplier by volume (39% in MY 2025/26); New Zealand leads in value. Fuji is the leading variety; organic U.S. apples hit a record 8,151 MT.
Apple production is forecast up 5% to 852,000 MT in MY 2026/27 on modern techniques and favorable weather, with area rising 1% to 57,815 ha. Pear output stays limited at ~28,050 MT and remains heavily import-dependent. Table grape production is projected down 7% to 365,000 MT (area -6%) after high temperatures in Sonora disrupted dormancy and yields. Apple consumption rises modestly to ~1.16 million MT while imports fall 9% to 310,000 MT (U.S. supplies >98%). Grape exports and consumption also decline. Inflation and shifting household demand constrain overall consumption growth.
