The updated orange crop forecast for the 2025-2026 season in the São Paulo and West-Southwest Minas Gerais citrus belt is revised downward to 294.81 million boxes of 40.8 kg. This latest December 2025 estimate by Fundecitrus reflects a 3.9% decrease (11.9 million fewer boxes) compared to the previous forecast released in September. The decline is more significant when compared to the initial May forecast, representing a 6.3% drop or 19.79 million fewer boxes. The primary factors driving this reduction are the estimated smaller average size of oranges and a higher rate of premature fruit drop across the citrus belt. The diminished production is largely attributed to adverse climatic factors, specifically an extended period of drought.
Between May and November 2025, the average accumulated rainfall in the citrus belt was only 392 millimeters, representing a 20% deficit relative to the historical average. Crucially, September rainfall averaged 70% below the historical average, and this water deficit, combined with intense wind gusts, contributed to the increased fruit drop, particularly affecting trees with high greening severity. The resulting smaller fruit size is reflected in the revision of the total number of oranges needed to fill a box, which increased from 258 to 265.
The crop reduction was noted across all variety groups, with the Natal variety showing the largest percentage decrease at 6.0%, followed by Valencia and Folha Murcha at 5.8%. Consequently, the overall projection for the rate of premature fruit drop was increased from 22% to 23%. Specifically, the drop rate for Natal varieties reached 28.5% and the Valencia and Folha Murcha varieties reached 25.6%. As of mid-November, approximately 65% of the total crop had been harvested , with about 40% of the Pera variety being harvested under the adverse drought conditions. The forecast will be updated again on February 10, 2026.
Henrique Braun will succeed James Quincey as CEO of The Coca-Cola Company in 2026, while Quincey will remain as Executive Chairman of the Board. DrinkPAK is the inaugural tenant at Bellwether District, the ex-oil refinery site in Southwest Philly. The California beverage maker will establish a massive 1.4 million-square-foot facility at 26th Street and Penrose Avenue by 2027, marking the site's transformation into a hub for industrial and commercial activities. This development signifies the area's revitalization and potential economic growth opportunities.

Peruvian lime exports are projected to hit a new record in 2025, driven by increasing shipments and a focus on the US and Chile as key markets. Exporters should prioritize strategies to capitalize on this growth trend, such as enhancing market presence in these countries and optimizing supply chain efficiencies to meet rising demand.
Morocco reached a seasonal high in mandarin exports to Germany, becoming the fourth-largest supplier. The surge in shipments during the 2024/25 season highlights Morocco's growing presence in the German market. Exporters can leverage this trend to strengthen trade partnerships and capitalize on increasing demand for Moroccan citrus fruits in Germany.
Two decades of HLB research in Florida have revealed the disease's devastating impact on citrus crops. Key findings include early detection's critical role, the importance of integrated pest management strategies, and ongoing research for disease-resistant citrus varieties. Actionable takeaways include implementing early detection practices, adopting integrated pest management techniques, and supporting ongoing research efforts for sustainable citrus production in HLB-affected areas.

Comparative metabolomics analysis of flat peach juice found varying effects of pasteurization (PS), high-temperature short-time treatment (HTST), and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) on metabolites. HHP showed the least impact on metabolites compared to PS and HTST. Consider HHP for minimal alteration in metabolite composition when sterilizing peach juice for better nutrient retention and flavor preservation.
Microplastics (MPs) are a prevalent contaminant in bottled water and beverages, posing health risks. Consumers should opt for filtered tap water and reduce single-use plastic consumption to mitigate exposure. Regulatory bodies should enforce stricter guidelines on microplastic levels in food and beverage products to safeguard public health.
